The paintings are made on small wooden panels and are based on photographs that I have taken on the walks. While painting them I am looking at Bewick prints enlarged to show the enormous variety of marks that he used to depict different surfaces. The painted brushstrokes that I use reflect these marks moving the images away from the photographic towards the printed image.
Alongside the landscape paintings that come from the walks that I’ve been doing I’ve been making a series of images of men. All taken from Bewick prints they are isolated from their background and any other people, painted in monochrome, clinging to sticks and trees.
